WWE News: Planning Around 2018 Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal
Mar 8, 2018 at 1:46 PM
Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal was included in WWE programming back in the year 2014.
Hulk Hogan was back in the company just before Wrestlemania, that year to announce the same. This battle royal was launched to give a big opportunity for the youngsters, especially. A win at the biggest of the year toppling other 29 superstars is considered to be a huge achievement.
So, this was supposed to be a huge platform given to the winners, going forward. The first winner was selected in the form of Cesaro to hand over him the spotlight.
But, the plan did not come to fruition, properly as the Swiss Superman is not part of the main event, till date. The last three years witnessed Big Show, Baron Corbin, and Mojo Rawley as the winners who failed to create whatsoever impact on the roster, as well.
So, this created a question mark about the creative team’s planning around this particular match. It is confirmed the 5th edition of Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal will return this year at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans. If the recent reports are to be believed, then we will see big planning around this matchup.
According to the reports from PWInsider.com, the winner of this year’s matchup is set to receive a huge push on the roster owing to the documentary on Andre The Giant just around the same time.
It is all set to release on HBO in the spring, and WWE does want to attach their name to it in a big way possible. So, the winner, this year might not be treated as the past occasions.
Check out more updates about the same from SportsKeeda.com,
“This year’s winner will be given a huge push because the Battle Royal will coincide with the release of the new documentary about the WWE Hall of Famer.
The company is aware that if the documentary receives good ratings, it could lead to more projects with HBO and Bill Simmons, who is reportedly a huge WWE fan and the man behind the camera for the upcoming release.”
Just two days later of the Wrestlemania show, the much-anticipated documentary on the eighth wonder of the world will go on air. You can catch the promo of the same in the above-given link.
