WWE News: Planning For AJ Styles On Smackdown Live After Superstar Shakeup

AJ Styles had shown the signs of turning into a babyface, lately. Last week, he started the process of a face-turn by confronting the Smackdown commissioner, Shane McMahon. This week, he solidified the move by becoming the number one contender for Kevin Owens’ United States title. Since Owens is the bonafide heel on WWE roster, it is evident that he will be acting like a babyface, going forward.

Considering the Phenomenal superstar that AJ is, it does not really matter which character he does play on the Smackdown brand. Nobody in the WWE got an ovation from the fans, each and every week despite being a heel character, onscreen. So, the creative wanted to make the flag-bearer of Smackdown Live brand.

He has been very vocal about the fact for the past couple of weeks. He is indeed the cornerstone of the blue brand ever since the brand split happened in July 2016. This is the reason why he has not been drafted to Raw during the superstar shakeup.
John Cena’s post-Wrestlemania hiatus is also another reason for not taking Styles on Raw. He will be indeed the face that runs the place on the brand.
Plus, Shane McMahon acknowledged the fact that he does not want to move Styles on the flagship show, as well. So, Shane’s role was also an important one regarding this matter. With that being said, it’s only a matter of time before he gets a WWE title shot in the near future.

But, for now, he will have to stick into the mid-card title picture. As reported by cagesideseats.com, AJ Styles will feature in the United States title picture until and unless Randy Orton is done with his feud with Bray Wyatt. The reigning WWE champion is slated to face the Eater of the World in the upcoming Payback PPV on April 30.

Since Bray Wyatt has been shifted to Raw this week, it is not likely that he will win back the WWE championship from Orton. So, the Viper is expected to retain his title even after Payback to start a new feud against AJ Styles, most probably.
But, before that AJ will face the winner of the Chris Jericho vs. Kevin Owens match to claim the United States title from him. He is not expected to succeed in capturing this title because he will soon start competing for the most prestigious title in sports entertainment.
