John Cena has been calling out The Undertaker for a long time now. It started after the Elimination Chamber PPV event after which he started to realise that this year, he might not have a Wrestlemania moment.
That would be unless Undertaker decided to show up earlier and confirm it. But, things did not turn out to be like that.
Instead, we were kept in utter confusion regarding the upcoming match. Despite numerous insults made by the franchise player of the company, the Deadman never bothered to make an appearance. No answer was provided to us whether the match is happening or not.
The rumours even suggested this match might remain unsanctioned until the day of Wrestlemania itself where the Phenome would finally make his comeback.
We haven’t seen a glimpse of The Undertaker since his awkward promo at Raw 25 that looked like babbling about the future of his career. Meanwhile, John Cena continued with his ‘do something’ chants on a weekly basis to let have a solo buildup for this dream matchup.
Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted on this situation by comparing it with the Daniel Bryan scenario. We have seen him getting cleared just weeks before the biggest event of the year so that a comeback match can be arranged. But, in case of The Undertaker, Mr McMahon might have decided to hype up the fully loaded card and let this match remain for the final week of Wrestlemania.
Check out the quotes from the veteran wrestling journalist,
“They had Danielson have his checkup by Dr. Maroon 8 days earlier because Vince was so adamant that he didn’t want to wait until what would have been this week to shoot the angle [with Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn] and then next week have the match which I can get.
But with Undertaker and Cena [Vince McMahon] is actually doing the exact same thing. To me, the idea is with the Daniel Bryan return and Ronda Rousey’s match you know Nakamura and AJ and Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns I think maybe he just figures, ‘hey it’s a loaded up card we can wait until the last week to push the Cena and Undertaker thing.”

Most of the fans might not be okay with the way this match has turned out to be. If both these men have been present during the feud, then the buildup would have been a solid one. You can only imagine the atmosphere in an arena when these two legends are standing inside the same ring after so many years.
Unfortunately, we have not seen even a bit of it, due to the backstage planning.
