We have not received a solid build up for the Backlash PPV in the past episodes of WWE Raw and Smackdown Live. Owing to the sudden Greatest Royal Rumble event, the company was not able to finalise the PPV lineups, much earlier. It is why the hype up has turned out to be underwhelming.
In addition to this, the superstar shakeup arrived at the scene, all of a sudden. Numerous names moved from WWE Raw to Smackdown Live and the vice-versa to create an unstable environment on the roster.
However, despite this, WWE stacked-up the match card with the marquee players under their banner. Several cross-brand matches will take place to sell out the show from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
There will be five championship matches at the Backlash PPV event. Except for the tag titles and the Universal title on the main roster, each of the championships will get defended. It includes the WWE Championship, US Championship, Intercontinental Championship, Raw Women’s Championship and SmackDown Women’s Championship. Now, at least some of them are expected to change hands.
According to the reports of cagesideseats.com though, none of the champions are currently scheduled to drop their titles. The WWE Championship match got converted into a No Disqualification match, but it is not likely that Styles will drop the title.
Perhaps, he is expected to pick up a rivalry against Samoa Joe over the prime title, going forward.
Meanwhile, Jeff Hardy has just started a fresh run as the United States Championship. Hence, we can’t expect him to drop it as early as possible. It will harm his ability as the string champion that he is. So, for now, Orton has no chance to recapture his title.
The only chance stands with Smackdown women’s title though considering Carmella is not that much effective as the title-holder. The audience is less interested to see her as the reigning champion due to her weak character. Hence, we should not be surprised to see Charlotte to regain her title, once again.
As per the reports from SportsKeeda.com, the IC title going over Smackdown does not make sense, too,
“Seth Rollins has regained the momentum that he had lost, after winning the Intercontinental Championship. He kept the momentum going on Raw this past week, with a terrific title defence against Finn Balor. Also, since the US Title is already on SD, it would not make sense for Miz to win and take the Intercontinental Title back to the blue brand.”
