WWE News: Raw-Superstar Says He is Retired from In-Ring Competition 1

We have not seen Mark Henry in-active wrestling capacity for quite a long time.

For the last couple of years, he had transitioned into a role where the creative team used him only in few roles where he could get used as a jobber. Here he used to feature in a short storyline with an emerging superstar to establish him as a star.

But, gradually, that tradition has come to an end, too. Although Henry is a member of the Raw roster, we have not seen him performing on live television for a long time. The last time he was part of a live TV was at this year’s Royal Rumble PPV. He spent a short period in the match before getting eliminated by none other than Braun Strowman to put him over.

So, the question in fan’s mind was whether his career in the WWE is over. Recently, the former world champion commented on the topic on Sam Roberts’ wrestling podcast. When asked about his career, he confirmed he is no more of an active wrestler, these days. However, he will continue to work for the WWE in the future.

According to his words, Mark Henry will be given some sort of backstage roles in the future. This might include covering the shows as a producer or scouting new talents that should be nurtured. At his age of 46, it’s an expected role that the WWE veterans generally used to do.

The former world champion also announced the same in an interview with wrestlezone.com where he stated,

“It’s been 21 years, and as we know, that Father Time is undefeated. My time is coming to an end. I’ll go from talent to an employee here in a few months. I’m just looking forward to making that transition, helping these young guys and girls coming in beneath us.”

Mark Henry had undergone a lot of gimmick changes in his career. He debuted in the 90s with as an Olympian which was converted into a ‘sexual chocolate’ gimmick. Later, Henry started performing as the world’s strongest man who ended with a Hall of Pain gimmick for the latter of his career. He had also become a world champion in the year 2012.
