Last week, Alberto Del Rio got released from the WWE, after the company issued a statement. He confirmed the news further by posting on Twitter that he left the company on good terms and no bitter feelings.
However, prior to that, he got suspended from the company due to wellness policy violation. The company never clarified the reason. Del Rio had a clause in his contract which allowed him to leave the company if he is not pleased with his position in WWE. He exercised the clause in the midst of his suspension and gave notice seeking release in the month of June.
Officials granted his demand and let him go from the company. Last week, after it was done Del Rio hosted a press conference in his hometown of Mexico City addressing the issues regarding him and his future.
Dave Meltzer from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter attended the same and reported the actual substance for which he got suspended for. Here is part of his conversations with Bryan Alvarez. (courtesy SportsKeeda.com)
Bryan Alvarez: “We learned today that 39-year-old Alberto Del Rio tried to get an exemption for testosterone replacement therapy, he’s on it-“
Dave Meltzer: “No, no, no. Bryan, you know the story.”
As far as like, everyone’s got an excuse when they fail a steroid test, you know that. I mean it’s always medically prescribed. At least he didn’t say it was a supplement. But, you know, that’s what he said. As far as what it really is, it’s… I can’t say any more. But it’s what it… he failed for PEDs. He failed a test for elevated testosterone in his system, I mean, that’s the truth… And he doesn’t have to worry about it anymore because he’s not going to sign with anybody that’s testing, I don’t think.”
The testosterone replacement therapy is allowed in Mexico but not in the WWE. Hence, the Mexican Aristocrat got suspended despite he was having a doctor’s prescription for it.
