The WWE Universe was indeed shocked to see Jinder Mahal losing the WWE Championship against AJ Styles. He was on top of his game for the past few weeks but came up short against the Phenomenal One, all of a sudden. It was a surprising title change considering that the lineups for the Survivor Series PPV were decided, already and the main event was not supposed to change.
For any of the PPV nights, the sellout of the tickets is made with the help of the main event. So, it was indeed a rare occasion where the marquee match got altered at the very last moment. So, the new match between AJ Styles and Brock Lesnar will take place on short notice. Since this is a dream match for the fans, there will be no problems while selling out tickets, for sure.
A recent report from PWInsider.com indicated as of why the officials from WWE went for a title change, abruptly. The source suggested none other than Vince McMahon was the one who decided of putting the WWE Championship on Styles, as to turn the last dual brand PPV of the year, a must-watch affair.
According to the earlier reports from Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Jinder Mahal was originally supposed to head into the Champion vs Champion match against Brock Lesnar. John Cena was supposed to be the special guest referee or interfere in the matchup costing Jinder, the matchup and set up their feud for Wrestlemania 34.
However, this was later called off with The Boss being much concerned about the fallen TV ratings of Smackdown Live. It was an all-time low on the previous week after which he made a WWE Championship match official between Jinder and AJ to pull some more ratings heading into the Survivor Series.
Also, it is considered as a reward for the Phenomenal One who has been a workhorse of the WWE for the past few weeks. AJ Styles was the one to save the TLC PPV match for Finn Balor. He showed up in place of Bray Wyatt after the latter one got injured. The dream match delivered big-time indicating better time is on the way for the Smackdown superstar.
