This past Sunday, The Great Khali made a comeback in the WWE after three years. Initially, it was thought that his career in the company is over following the expiry of his contract. He was never asked for a renewal until this time when Jinder Mahal is going strong with his championship reign.
The monster from Punjab, India came out the Punjabi Prison match at Battleground between Jinder Mahal and Randy Orton. It was quite obvious that he went right after The Viper in order to help his brother from his home-country. This allowed the champion to escape the cage and retain his title after going through a hellacious battle.
Now, there’s a reason why the Great Khali was brought back to Smackdown Live. The probable reason was mentioned by Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter where he noted that the Indian audience is not much happy to witness Jinder’s championship reign since he is not much acquainted with the subcontinent.
On the other hand, Great Khali is the most popular wrestler in India. So, making an appearance with him will definitely grab the attention of the crowd. Plus, it will be a process of putting over the younger champion by using the veteran wrestler who has locked horns with The Undertaker, Triple H and more in his prime time.
Jinder Mahal already has The Singh Brothers in his corner but with Khali coming in, his confidence level will reach to the sky level. Khali was the first one to win the world championship in the WWE and put India on the map of the pro-wrestling circuit around the USA. Plus, he is also the originator of the Punjabi Prison match, as well.
Going forward, we can definitely expect The Great Khali to compete inside the WWE ring. He keeps himself fit enough for his own training academy purposes and should get past with the evaluation by the WWE doctors easily.
As per a source, we should not be amazed if Khali gets a match at the Summerslam PPV. Since WWE is trying hard to break into India’s market, this would be a great addition to the PPV card for the Indian fans to witness him in action. The former champion had competed last in the WWE on Smackdown against Rusev.
