It is a rare scene on Raw that Roman Reigns is taking a pinfall loss against a superstar. But, that’s exactly what happened on this past edition of Monday Night Raw. In addition, it was a clean pin against the number one contender, Samoa Joe. It was the second time that these two behemoths have collided inside the squared circle where Joe picked up a clean win.
The setup between Reigns and Joe locking horns were made in the opening segment of this past week’s flagship show when these two had a confrontation. Despite being the face of the brand, the Big Dog cut a heel promo against all the superstars present in the locker room. He added that no prime superstar can claim singles win against him.
However, that’s not true considering superstars like Seth Rollins, Bray Wyatt, Finn Balor and more has singles win against him. The list added another name in the form of The Destroyer after Raw. Now, there’s a reason why the Samoan Submission Machine was able to defeat the franchise player of the company.
WWE wants to show Joe as one indestructible force heading towards the Great Balls of Fire PPV. So, what better way to boost his momentum by handing him a win against the man who claims this is his yard. So, the Creative did not even bother that it was a clean win without any interferences.
Following the match, Braun Strowman showed up in the ring to challenge Reigns in an Ambulance match at the Great Balls of Fire PPV. Afterwards, this match was made official for the upcoming Raw-exclusive event in July. The news is that this match would be made as the number one contender’s match.
So, the winner of this bout will go on to headline the Summerslam PPV against the man who emerges victorious in the Universal Championship match at Great Balls of Fire.
Joe might be given a tremendous push in the Raw roster but he is still not expected to win the bout against Brock Lesnar. So, the winner of the Ambulance match will feature in the main event at the biggest event of the summer against the beast incarnate, this year.
