However, what turned out as a shocker, we witnessed him getting pinned by Jinder Mahal in an impromptu match and thus getting robbed.

The Dirty Sheets Podcast revealed the reason behind WWE taking away the Money in the Bank briefcase from Corbin. In a recent report, they described the entire scenario. Apparently, the creative heads were not much happy with Corbin’s progress and the cold reaction that he receives from the audience.
So, they decided to put an end to the push that was being given to the former NXT Superstar. He will no longer be pitted in the main event picture unless an abrupt change is down in the plans. This, in turn, extended the championship reign of Jinder Mahal who retained successfully at the Summerslam PPV.
The initial planning for the WWE Championship was to crown Shinsuke Nakamura with the WWE Championship at Summerslam. Baron Corbin would have cashed in the Money in the Bank successfully on Nakamura to leave the Barclays Center as the new WWE Champion. It would continue the feud between Nakamura and Corbin over the WWE Championship.
The officials never thought of carrying forward the Jinder vs Nakamura feud going forward. However, the crowd was not invested into the Nakamura-Corbin feud, earlier and hence, the officials decided to call it off before the Summerslam. So, Jinder retained to extend the feud between him and Nakamura.
Additionally, Jinder was supposed to pick up the win via disqualification and then retain the championship. But, he earned quite a praise from The New York Times on the day of Summerslam that led him to retain the title via a clean finish. After the distraction by Singh Brothers, Jinder hit the Khallas to pin his opponent right in the middle of the ring.
