WWE News: Reason Why Finn Balor Would Not Face Brock Lesnar at Royal Rumble 1

As per the previous updates of Dave Meltzer from Wrestling Observer Radio, the previous plan was to pit Finn Balor against Brock Lesnar at the first big PPV of 2018.

For a long time now, the officials are pushing for the program, and it might come to fruition at the next edition of Royal Rumble PPV.

Currently, the Universal Champion is scheduled to defend his title at the Royal Rumble event in a triple threat capacity. At Survivor Series, he faced AJ Styles in a cross-brand match. So, it was going to be his next championship defence against the first-ever Universal Champion who never lost the title. Instead, he had to relinquish it due to a severe injury.

In the recent times, Finn Balor has been quite vocal about getting the match against Brock Lesnar. The fans also see it as one of the dream matches in the company. So, as per Meltzer, Royal Rumble would be the perfect event to let these two lock horns.

But, if the current reports from Sports Illustrated are to be believed then the match has been nixed out due to a strange reason. According to the source, WWE creative team does not see Finn Balor as a marquee superstar. So, he is not on the list of those superstars who can be used as the main event stars from WWE Raw.

Being a popular superstar, and one of the top in-ring performers of this generation, the fans wanted to see him getting back into the WWE Universal Championship picture and face Brock Lesnar in a dream match. But, this is not happening sooner with the company heads not considering Balor as the main event attraction,

“Balor is slowly transitioning into a newer version of Dolph Ziggler as a performer with a great series of matches but no reward atop the card or faith from the office.”

Another suggestion from Sports Illustrated stated Vince McMahon still does not have faith in the Irish man who has all the tools to become a prime face of the Raw brand. But, The Boss is not likely to give a push to the former champion, going by the below quotes,

“A source close to WWE creative relayed that McMahon sees Balor as bland when he is not portraying “The Demon” character.”
