The main event scene of Extreme Rules changed within a few days of time-span. The previous announcement from the general manager suggested a multi-man match.
Several superstars would have received the opportunity to get the number one contender’s spot for the Universal Championship. The officials had finally spoken up about Brock Lesnar two weeks ago.
He will appear in due course to defend the title held by him. However, they did not give any particular update whether Summerslam will mark his next championship defence or not. Meanwhile, the mentioned Extreme Rules multi-man match was about to determine his next opponent. It was the best option for the creative team to select any one of the members on the Raw roster for the beast incarnate.
But the match is off the card right now. Brock Lesnar seems to have some sorts of contract negotiation issues which stopped the happening of this match. Brock does not want to have multiple superstars getting the chance to face him shortly. Kurt Angle informed this to us on the past episode of WWE Raw.
Now we do know that this has happened just from a storyline perspective. The original reason is something else. Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer Live gave an update to this situation. The reliable source assured there is only one reason for the match getting cancelled.
This is because Vince McMahon has just changed his mind about the contender’s match in recent times. So he does not want to host this anymore and will replace it with another suitable main event match for Extreme Rules. The most likely option for the same would be a singles contest between Roman Reigns and Bobby Lashley.
Another reason for the same would be the booking of the superstars. There will be fewer talents available for the other PPV matches if most of the prime names are in the contender’s match. For example, it was almost certain that Seth Rollins was about to get a shot to the contender’s spot after losing the IC title. But now it looks like that he will have to stick in the same mid-card picture for a long time.
We are expecting an update on this Extreme Rules match situation on the next episode of WWE Raw. Kurt Angle had already given a hint that only Bobby Lashley and Roman Reigns might get an opportunity. He should confirm it by announcing an official statement.
