WWE News: Reason Why The New Day Lost the Tag Team Championships 1

At the 30th annual Summerslam event, The New Day received a matchup against The Usos. It was a rematch for the Smackdown tag team championships on that night between two of the wisest tag teams in the history of the company. The match was bound to be show-stealer one. But, due to the bigger match card of the dual brand PPV, this contest was moved into the kick-off show.

Since, The New Day had just picked up the title at the bygone Battleground PPV, last month; we thought that another title change might not occur, sooner. Being the longest reigning tag team champions, The Unicorns were brought into the blue brand to raise up the prestige of the Smackdown tag division. Hence, they were supposed to get a fair title run.

But, to everyone’s surprise, the champions lost their titles after a fantastic matchup. The Usos were on a roll for the past couple of months, and they captured their fourth tag team championships by defeating Big E and Xavier Woods, fair and square. The fans were upset with this decision, for sure. But, there’s a certain bright side of this title change.

According to the reports of Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer, WWE officials are extremely high on the potentials of the New Day members. So, they have a huge planning for them if looked from a bigger perspective. Apparently, the creative team wants to make them as the tag team who holds the most number of championship reigns, as well. Hence, title changes are pretty obvious.

At this time, The Hardy Boyz and the team of Edge & Christian have second most number of reigns in the WWE with both of standing at seven, whereas, the Dudleyz have nine. According to the reports of wrestlingnews.co, The New Day will at least tie this record if not breaks it, some day.

So, they will soon recapture the Smackdown tag team titles from The Usos or somebody else in the future. Plus, these kinds of title changes favour the storylines, as well since it grabs the limelight. WWE has adopted this way to make most of the feuds interesting, in recent times and it is likely that the tradition will continue.
