For weeks, before Wrestlemania 34, John Cena called out The Undertaker to set up a match. He failed on numerous occasions to reserve a spot for him at the ‘show of shows’.
Hence, the only option that remained for him was to seek for The Deadman. It is the dream match that the fans wanted to see for a long time and especially at Wrestlemania.
However, the Phenome was unwilling to appear despite the Cenation Leader pulling out all the stops to get him back to the squared circle. His status was unclear since we hadn’t heard from him after that devastating loss at the hands of Roman Reigns at last year’s Wrestlemania in Orlando, Florida. Not answering the call indicated that the math was not happening.
However, it did take place on the show at Wrestlemania 34 after the Undertaker resurfaced all of a sudden. In a short match, he squashed the franchise player of the company. It put him back on the winning track. But, the match being short has not delivered to the expectations. It was a dream match that was supposed to be a main event kind of bout.
Recently, Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted on this topic revealing why the match concluded in just two minutes and 45 seconds. According to the veteran journalist, the WWE officials did know that the contest is happening, months ago. But, they did not want to give it a ‘main event’ kind of feeling which is why the match did not get sanctioned officially.
Furthermore, it is to be noted that The Undertaker had undergone major hip surgery, last year.
Following this, several reports suggested this might end his career for good. But, overcoming all the odds, he returned to his yard. But, at the same time, the surgery did not let him compete in a lengthy match.

“The decision to book Taker vs Cena for WrestleMania 34 was made months ago, and at some point, WWE officials realized that Taker couldn’t do a lengthy match, which is why the match was booked to be so short. The concept behind the build-up for the match was to let fans know that The Undertaker would be showing up at WrestleMania, but to also downplay the idea that it was one of the biggest matches on the show.”
