A ladder match is one of the most exciting gimmicks in the WWE. The fans love to see such contests that bring out the intensity out of the superstars. This is why we do see a lot of ladder matches around multiple PPVs around a calendar year. That brings us to the topic of seeing one such at Wrestlemania 35.
We should note that WWE started hosting ladder matches from Wrestlemania 31 onwards. These matches would see had mid-card titles like the Intercontinental Championship or the tag team championships being on the line. But we have not seen the trend continuing, last year at Wrestlemania 34.
Two titles to change hands at Wrestlemania 35
The question is whether Wrestlemania 35 will host such a ladder match. Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.com recently had a Q&A session on Fightful Select. During this session, he spoke about the possibility of seeing a ladder match when the next edition of ‘show of shows’ returns from New Jersey.
The reliable source hinted that backstage planning is going on around a ladder match. Apparently, the green signal has almost arrived for a women’s division match but then the officials have canceled it thinking this would be a messy affair to start the show with. So this gimmick match is probably not happening, this year.
Here’s what the source had to say giving a negative update overseeing a ladder match at Wrestlemania 35,
“I know [a ladder match] was pitched for the women’s match and it was quickly shot down. I don’t know, that could end up changing. I was told this week that they consider a ladder match too much of a mess and I’m thinking, ‘What, why.?!’ They need one.” H/T: RingsideNews
It’s still not understood why WWE would take such a harsh decision by scraping off a ladder match at Wrestlemania 35. The women’s tag team title matchup already had a lackluster buildup. Putting such a gimmick on this particular match could cover up the poor booking which is not likely to happen.
As mentioned earlier, a ladder match became a regular thing at Wrestlemania card. In 2015, Daniel Bryan won such a match defeating five other men to win the Intercontinental Championship. Next year, Zack Ryder had the same opportunity. At Wrestlemania 33, we have seen one of the most memorable tag-team matches where the Hardy Boyz returned.
