Since the day John Cena was on a hiatus from the WWE, the rumor mill suggested numerous speculations regarding his WWE career.
Summerslam onwards, he made sporadic appearances before going for a long vacation after No Mercy. As of now, he is advertised to return in the WWE Holiday special live tour on December 26, in a house show from Madison Square Garden.
Furthermore, it’s now confirmed that he will be on Smackdown, the very next night. There are some rumors regarding his role once he returns on TV. A report from Wrestling Observer Newsletter suggested Cena will straight be pushed to the main event picture after he gets back into the ring.
He will be challenging AJ Styles for the WWE World championship filling the spot of Dean Ambrose. As per the storyline, he will be chasing the Nature Boy, Ric Flair’s 16th WWE World title record.
On the other hand, Dean Ambrose will be brought to the mid-card level. He will be the opponent for the Miz for the Intercontinental title. The storyline resembles that of Dolph Ziggler post-Summerslam. He was taken to the mid-card scene after he failed to capture the World title.
Another question also arises in this juncture and that is what is going to be the Undertaker’s role on Smackdown as stated by him on the 900th episode. He said he would be back to take on some more opponents infuture. So, the speculation was that he might be the one who is going to be Styles’ challenger for the title.
