Ronda Rousey shocked the WWE Universe by appearing on this week’s WWE Raw.
Kurt Angle suspended her for 30 days for attacking the officials on the show, three weeks ago. No superstar can put their hands on the authority figures or the referees present in the ring or backstage. The former UFC superstar was no exception, of course.
It was just a catch in WWE storyline to save Ronda Rousey for the biggest event of the summer. Extreme Rules was just a filler event before Summerslam, at least from the WWE Raw women’s championship perspective. Alexa Bliss was always the favourite to retain the title against Nia Jax.
The outcome of the match was no different despite ‘the baddest woman on the planet’ sitting and interfering in it. The sole reason behind this title retention was to set up a Summerslam match between Ronda Rousey and Alexa Bliss.
WWE took the least time to confirm the match just one night later through an official statement,
“At SummerSlam, the heat of summer will turn positively explosive when The Baddest Woman on the Planet sets her sights on Five Feet of Fury and the Raw Women’s Championship. Who will emerge victorious in SummerSlam’s incredible Raw Women’s Championship Match? Find out Sunday, Aug. 19, at 7 ET/4 PT, streaming live on the award-winning WWE Network!”
Ronda Rousey broke the suspension rule and appeared at the KeyBank Center in Buffalo, NY to hand over a beatdown to Bliss. But this was not authentic by any means. Entering a building during the suspension period is trespassing which is why the WWE Raw GM has now extended the timespan.
There’s a catch in the already confirmed Summerslam Championship match. Ronda Rousey can’t make her presence on the flagship show for one more week. Her suspension period was about to end on July 18th which will now end on July 25th. If she does show up on next week’s event, then the title match will be off.
So the biggest attraction of the female division of the WWE will not be present on WWE Raw, next week. It is good news for the current champion, as she can take a moment of relaxing before the behemoth persona comes back. It is almost certain that her title reign is coming to an end on August 19th.
