WWE is trying hard to give us something fresh in the first PPV event of 2019. McMahons took things over on WWE Raw and Smackdown promising the same following WWE TLC. So it will be interesting to see whether they can stay true to their words. Till date, we have seen efforts in the planning and received some unseen matches for Royal Rumble.
One of them will take place over the WWE Raw women’s championship. Ronda Rousey will defend her title against Sasha Banks in a matchup that was supposed to be a dream match. The Boss defeated Nia Jax to pull off a shocker on WWE Raw. This earned her the number one contender’s spot and thereby a title shot.
Plans for Ronda Rousey at Wrestlemania 35
Many of the fans got shocked with WWE suddenly confirming this matchup. There was no such rumor available on the internet regarding this upcoming match. Rather we thought of seeing a cross-brand matchup between Ronda Rousey and Charlotte Flair/Becky Lynch. But it was the champion who wanted to face Sasha Banks.
Ronda Rousey seemed immensely happy about getting The Legit Boss as her opponent. She posted comments on the social media that suggested that she is looking forward to the match. Plus, she mentioned it will be her honor to defend WWE Raw women’s title at Royal Rumble as well as a pleasure to beat her opponent for it.
The interesting part is that Ronda Rousey brought out the context of Four Horsewomen. She stated her UFC colleagues Shayna Baszler, Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir forms the real Horsewomen faction. They intend to beat WWE’s version of the faction one by one. It is to mention that Ronda Rousey has already defeated Charlotte Flair via DQ at Survivor Series.
Now she looks to beat Sasha Banks at Royal Rumble. But Charlotte Flair showered praise to her former NXT partner and predicted a solid resistance from her against the ‘baddest woman on the planet’. Here are her comments courtesy of an interview with SportsKeeda.com,
“Sasha is my Kryptonite and no one can underestimate ‘The Boss’. I think she’s going to put up a good fight against Ronda at the Royal Rumble. I know what she’s capable of.”
Many believe that Sasha Banks is the most technical wrestler of the current WWE women’s roster. But she does not get the deserving recognition. The officials inserting her into a match against Ronda Rousey made them happy. A solid outing at Royal Rumble can put her in the title picture, permanently.
