There’s no denying that Rusev and Lana are one of the most hated couples that WWE has offered in its history. They were born with the heel persona, and it was easy for both of them to portray the villainous gimmick handed to them.
The recent time is not going well for them since for the first time in their career they are going directionless.
It is due to a supposed backstage heat for Rusev’s changed look. He had suffered a shoulder injury which kept him away from competing in the ring for the earlier 2017.
Also, the couple had taken a time-off since Wrestlemania. Rusev underwent a minor surgery on his shoulder, and the rehab process took more than two months to come back. Rusev and Lana recently appeared on the podcast hosted by Chris Jericho named ‘Talk is Jericho’ where they discussed their beginning days back in the NXT.
Lana said she was scared after seeing the bunch of talents present in the WWE locker room. They were terrified whether their gimmick will be successful or not. The Ravishing Russian also stated that it was the late great Dusty Rhodes who put them together. Here are her comments:
“Yeah, he put us [together]. Literally, my first promo class, afterward, I went up to him, and he was like, ‘I want you to work with Runoff.’
And then, we played around with several things for a month or two, so many things.”
Rusev added that working together brought them together without even noticing it. He spelled out how they realized of their ongoing relationship:
“One day she goes and says… what did you say? ‘Are we together?’ And I was like, ‘what do you think we’ve been doing for the past four months?’ What is that even supposed to mean?
I’ve never understood that. In my country when you kiss somebody for four months, everything is straight and you’re damn sure you’re boyfriend and girlfriend!”
As for now, Lana is aligning herself with Tamina on Smackdown Live, whereas, Rusev was indulged in a feud with Randy Orton. It will be interesting whether both of these storylines are taken forward.
