AJ Styles vs Samoa Joe was the headliner of WWE Summerslam. These two battled it out over the WWE Championship. It was good news for the fans to see them competing in a match considering the history between these two. It was a dream match for the fans that finally came true. So we expected a solid title match with the bigger outcome.

Well, the finish of the WWE Championship match did not live up to the hypes. It came to an abrupt end via disqualification. AJ Styles was livid after Samoa Joe hit Wendy Styles with some nasty comments. So the champion attacked him with a steel chair in hand. The referee had no other choice but to call for the bell.

Now, the original finish of the WWE Championship was something major different. A recent report is out that claims Samoa Joe was about to win the prestigious title for the first time. It could mark an end to the illustrious title reign that is continuing for over 300 days. It would have also marked Joe’s first title after coming to the main roster.

Ring Report is the source which suggested Samoa Joe was about to win his first major championship at Summerslam. However, the creative team went in a different direction at the very last moment. They allowed AJ Styles to continue the WWE championship reign. Popular belief is that WWE 2K19 is the sole reason behind this move.

AJ Styles is the cover superstar of this year’s edition in the video game. Owing to this fact only, officials extended the title run from Money in the Bank onwards. It would give privilege to the video game marketers to have the WWE Champion at their service while promoting it. Promotional campaigns will continue throughout the fall until game releases in October.

Another reason for the title retention for AJ Styles is to ensure the extension of the championship feud. The two veteran performers have just started a rivalry which should continue for the next several months. Giving a DQ end to their first bout gave a chance to set a rematch at the Hell in a Cell PPV. WWE confirmed this rematch for the prime championship yet again.

Chances are pretty big that Samoa Joe could win the WWE Championship at the upcoming show. He has proved himself to be a dominant performer ever since the beginning. Unfortunately, it continued only in a non-title capacity. A veteran performer like him worked hard to get to this spot. Hopefully, his luck favours him next time around.
