During the Manchester edition of WWE Smackdown, Jinder Mahal lost his WWE Championship. He was forced to defend the title against AJ Styles as instructed by the commissioner, Shane McMahon. The match was made after the former champion ambushed the Phenomenal One on the previous episode.
The Face that runs the Place took full advantage of the opportunity handed to him. After a classic match in the main event of the show, he connected with the phenomenal fore-arm from the top rope on Jinder to pin him and become the new WWE Champion. It put an end to the 170-day long title reign of the modern-day Maharaja which is the longest one in the modern era just after CM Punk.
Once this match was over, the main event of Survivor Series also got altered. AJ Styles earned the rights to face Brock Lesnar in a Champion vs Champion match at the last dual brand PPV of the year. The former WWE Champion was out of the match card, altogether. But, recent reports are suggesting that he is set to make his presence felt on that night during the match.
In the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported Jinder Mahal might turn out to be the one to interfere in between the Brock Lesnar vs AJ Styles match at the Survivor Series. At this time, the former champion is not scheduled to get involved in the PPV in any capacity.
He remained the prime title-holder for the past six months. So, if WWE does not keep him in a role for Survivor Series, it will be harmful to his status in the long run. So, if he does show up to interfere in the main event matchup, then it would be a smart move by the officials to keep him relevant in his position.
Apparently, this would allow Brock Lesnar to get the win over AJ Styles with the latter one avoiding a clean pinfall loss against the beast incarnate. It would also be useful for the Phenomenal One, as well. Plus, the rivalry between Jinder Mahal and AJ Styles over the WWE Championship will also continue on Smackdown Live.
