WWE News: Tag Team Tournament Continued on Smackdown Live
Aug 1, 2018 at 8:31 PM
There are no current contenders present on Smackdown for the tag team championships.
The Bludgeon Brothers are the present title-holders who had a dominant run, to date. They had a tough challenge in the form of Team Hell No at Extreme Rules PPV. But they demolished the former tag champs, just like that.
Going forward, the Bludgeons will defend their titles at the Summerslam PPV. But they do not have any challengers on the roster. So Smackdown General Manager came up with a great idea to name the new contenders. She announced a tag team tournament from last week onwards. It features the prime teams from the blue brand.
The winner of this tournament will get to face the Bludgeons for the titles. Last week, the first round took place where the New Day emerged to the second round defeating SAnitY. This week, the tournament continues with another match. The Usos were set to take on The Bar in another first-round matchup.
The team of Sheamus and Cesaro performed on Smackdown Live after a long time. The New Day was out to do commentary for this matchup. They set up a tray full of pancakes to distribute among the fans. We should note that this team had already reached the finale of the tournament.
So they were out to scout their future opponents. The Bar was in early control of the match, as Cesaro and Sheamus frequently tagged each other. Sheamus made Jey feeling weary by delivering knees for a repeated number of times. Jey gave an uppercut to Sheamus and dodged a charge from his opponent.
Cesaro and Jimmy got the hot tag. The latter one was rolling with The Usos’ pendant moves. He also gave a spectacular twisting moonsault to Cesaro off the rope. The fight continued, as Jimmy hit a superkick to Sheamus. Moments later, Jey followed it up with a frog splash off the top rope. The contest was about to finish before Cesaro broke it up.
He sent Jey out of the ring over the top rope. Sheamus pulled his legs, as Jimmy tried to give another splash. He rolled Jimmy up to win the match via pinfall. It earned them a spot at next week’s Smackdown. They will take on The New Day for the contender’s spot. A staredown between the two teams ended the segment.
