We may have to wait a bit more before digesting the fact that Shane McMahon is now part of a tag team. His partner is none but The Miz from the Smackdown roster which is the most significant part. As much as it’s hard to believe, it’s really happening. They are not only a tag team but is up for a title challenge in the future against the current tag champs.
Less than two weeks away from the scheduled bout, we received a Birthday celebration for Shane McMahon. His partner The Miz was cordial enough to arrange a party for him on Smackdown on a special night that marked the 49th birthday for Shane O Mac. We did not expect things to go down in a smooth way since a title match is waiting on January 27th.
Shane McMahon and The Miz will challenge The Bar for the Smackdown tag team titles at WWE Royal Rumble. So the expectation was that The Bar would interrupt at one point to ruin the day for the newly formed tag team. Last week, they delivered an assault to The Miz while accepting the title challenge. So we expected the Hollywood A-lister to be ready for a sneak attack.
The segment took the same route as The Miz welcomed the birthday boy into the ring. Shane McMahon received a warm welcome from the Smackdown audience. He thanked everyone who broke into Happy Birthday chants for the authority figure. We also got to see a vignette featuring Shane-O-Mac’s in-ring career. The Miz stated that he could not wait to become the next tag team champion with his co-bestie.
The Bar i.e. Sheamus and Cesaro soon interrupted talking trash about their Royal Rumble opponents. They could not care less about the two standing in the ring. They even reminded of Sheamus kicking the head off Miz, last week. Shane McMahon fired back calling Sheamus a tough guy for Brogue Kicking Miz while he wasn’t looking. He did not hesitate to make a match between the two of them for Smackdown main event.
The match was quite a short one with Sheamus mostly in control. The Miz was performing the running drop-kicks when Cesaro tried to interfere. Shane McMahon put him through the table distracting Sheamus. The Miz picked up the win with a schoolboy. Sheamus tried to attack The Miz, again after the match. But Shane McMahon made the save. He hit a coast-to-coast on Sheamus with Miz holding a cake in front of his face. The duo celebrated to end this week’s Smackdown on a happy note.
