The New Day has already solidified their legacy in the history of tag team division. They added another feather to the hat on last night’s episode of Smackdown Live. For the second time, they were able to hold the Smackdown tag team champions. This put the trio back to the top of the mountain where they should belong.
The Bludgeon Brothers had a terrifying reign as the Smackdown tag team champions since Wrestlemania. These two met their toughest challenge till date at the Summerslam PPV event. The New Day was their opponents in an interesting match that witnessed a harsh end. Bludgeons realized that they could not win the match in a fair way.
So they used the Mallets laid at the ringside. Harper hit Big E with it to put an abrupt end to the match. The referee had no option but to call off the contest. This automatically set up a rematch for the tag team championships. Smackdown GM did not want a delay and made it officials on last night’s episode of the show.
Also, Paige wanted a definite winner from the match. So she added the No Disqualification stipulation into it. This ensured that the match should continue despite the volatile actions from the Bludgeons. The capacity definitely helped the New Day in the end as they came out as the winners.
Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods represented the New Day in this match against Harper and Rowan. Kofi was the main target of the two behemoths as they continued him punishing throughout the match. Harper took the fight to the ringside area and took a chair that the commentary team uses. He threw it into Kofi Kingston to lay him down!
But Kofi was right back into his feet. Harper and Rowan then double teamed against the veteran. They put him through a ladder with the help of a powerbomb! It was unbelievable to see Kofi kicking out of that! Rowan wanted to hit Kofi with the Mallet. But Woods pulled Kofi out of the way sending Rowan straight into the barricade.
Woods and Kofi laid Harper down on a table after taking him out with a Trouble in Paradise. Woods hit his pendant flying elbow through the table to pin him. This earned The New Day their fifth tag team championship of the WWE career. Things became extra sweet for them as they were able to capture the title in Brooklyn. It was at the same venue where these three started their longest-reigning tag team championship reign back in 2015.
