A four-year run of Summerslam for the Barclays Center has come to an end. Speculations were running long about a potential venue change for the biggest event of the summer. We expected an official announcement before WWE started the Summerslam weekend in 2018 in Brooklyn. However, it came only this week revealing WWE is heading to the neighbouring country in next year’s summer.
The official press release by the WWE has revealed Toronto will be the host of Summerslam 2019. The entire weekend will take place in so-called Bizarre-o-land featuring four back to back shows. August 11 will mark the return of the biggest part of the summer at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
WWE used to host the big events at the Air Canada Center while heading to Canada in the past. They locked in a new venue for now. Previously, WWE Raw and Smackdown of this week took place from this arena. It was for the first time that they conducted the weekly shows, here.
Meanwhile, this is what the official announcement looked like about Summerslam heading to Toronto.
“As first reported by Entertainment Tonight Canada, Toronto will host SummerSlam Week in August 2019 with SummerSlam (Sunday, Aug. 11), Monday Night Raw (Monday, Aug. 12), SmackDown Live (Tuesday, Aug. 13) and NXT Takeover (Saturday, Aug. 10) taking place at Scotiabank Arena over four consecutive nights.”
Canada fans wanted to host Wrestlemania for a long time. It was in the rumour mill for quite sometimes before WWE took the event back to New York City, next year. So for now, they will have to be satisfied with the biggest party of the summer. NXT Takeover: Toronto will also return to the town after 2016.
WWE officials expressed their joy after finalizing the deal at Toronto,
“We are thrilled to bring WWE’s Biggest Event of the Summer back to Toronto,” said John Saboor, WWE Executive Vice President, Special Events. “We look forward to working with our partners at Tourism Toronto and Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment to build a blueprint that welcomes our global fan base to the great city of Toronto.”
SummerSlam has become an extravaganza for the past several years. It comes up with several other meets & greets sessions for the fans before the actual show.
So an interactive fan festival Axxess will also take place at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. Hopefully, Canada will bring out a good edition of Summerslam to extend their deal with WWE.
