When it comes to the WWE Superstars, they are always given a particular character to portray on television. It is why we receive a certain number of heroic characters who are known as the babyface ones as per wrestling terms. On the other side, some bad guys are known as the heel ones.
It depends on the backstage creative team who decides that which superstar will portray which character. Sometimes it happens that one heel character is pulling off more cheers rather than a babyface. But, the officials let them continue with their current run indicating that they control the character. None other than Vince McMahon pulls the trigger for the most of this character build up.
On Smackdown Live, Rusev plays the part of the bonafide heel. Being a Bulgarian Superstar and always a patriotic gimmick attached to him, this man always received a natural heat from the crowd. However, in recent times, there has been a short turn in characteristics for him.
With Rusev Day going on, people are seen cheering him in the live events as well as in the taped shows. Especially if someone follows the Total Divas season; it’s hard to consider him as a heel considering the childish person that he possesses.
In contrast, Tye Dillinger is a Universal babyface since his debut on the NXT roster. With the ‘perfect 10’ gimmick attached to his character, it’s hard to hate him. Perhaps nobody could have earned more cheer than him during his stint in NXT. However, it did not do any favour for him after debuting on the main roster. Considering this, WWE might consider a double-turn for these two guys.
In a recent report from Wrestling Observer Newsletter, they noted WWE had tested the character changes for them in a live event. The show held in Raliegh, North Carolina witnessed Rusev acting like a babyface and received big cheers from the crowd while the ten chants were faded away, as the time progressed during the match. Rusev defeated Dillinger with the Accolade move in the midst of crowd chanting ‘what’ towards him.
As the officials successfully tested the initial move, they might go on to implement this character changes even on the television, as well. Both of these superstars need a push on the roster, and this double-turn might come as helpful if implemented properly.
