Brock Lesnar has just heated up the MMA scene appearing at UFC. Wherever this man goes, he creates headlines. This time it was no different either.
The rumours already suggested he was present backstage to watch the UFC 226 event on this past Saturday night. That turned out to be true when we spotted him sitting beside Dana White.
The fight for the UFC Heavyweight championship was going down inside the Octagon. Daniel Cormier challenged Stipe Miocic in a marquee fight of the night. Cormier became victorious by putting away Miocic via TKO. The drama started after that when Cormier noticed Lesnar sitting at the ringside.
He issued a challenge to the current WWE Universal Champion which the opponent readily accepted. Now we should remember UFC does not run through storyline angles like the WWE. We can’t just set up a fight inside the Octagon without proper arrangements. So this challenge means nothing until official announcements go down.
It looks like UFC is interested in setting up the Daniel Cormier vs. Brock Lesnar match at a later point. Dana White clarified the situation during the post-match conference. He stated they are indeed planning to make this mega match. Check out his comments, (via wrestlingINC.com),
“We’re definitely going to make that fight. He’s going to pop up (in the USADA testing) here Monday or Tuesday.”
The testing he is referring is the mandatory drug test before appearing in an MMA fight. We should let you know that the USADA found samples given by Brock Lesnar negative in 2016. He fought Mark Hunt two years ago to score a win. But this testing result reversed the decision, later.
Furthermore, the USADA also suspended him from appearing in a fight inside the Octagon for two years. The suspension is still going on. So Brock Lesnar will have to appear for further testing to prove himself clean this time around.
It will take almost six months which is why the match can’t take place until the end of the year.
Meanwhile, Daniel Cormier also sounded positive while anticipating this big match. His short note on this potential bout was,
“I fight Brock Lesnar, I get paid” during the press conference. The UFC Heavyweight Champion is currently focusing on ending his career on a big note. A fight with Brock Lesnar can give away that to him.
