CM Punk left the WWE back in 2014. He was not happy with his position in the company for a long time.
Plus a concussion gave him trouble for a long time. WWE officials might have forced him to compete with this injury. It is why he did not sign a new contract and left the business following Royal Rumble 2014.
The former WWE Champion wanted to be under the spotlight after his WWE stint. So he went straight to enter the MMA world. The biggest promotion in this industry, UFC signed CM Punk under their wings. It earned a lot of attention from the fans. The company promoted his first fight a lot.
But the world is entirely different between WWE and UFC. A fight inside the Octagon is different from the scripted world of pro-wrestling. Mickey Gall defeated CM Punk in just a couple of minutes at UFC 203.
An MMA fighter can’t expect a disastrous start like this. He received a second chance at the bygone UFC 225 only to come up losing again.
It might have been the very last fight for him. CM Punk was not able to impress even a single critic with his fighting skills. Joe Rogan even joked during the fight whether someone paid Punk’s opponent extra to take the fight to the third round. This fight lasted three rounds, unlike the first fight. But this was not enough to wipe out the bitter feelings.
So UFC President, Dana White might have spilled the truth for CM Punk. He noted on the bygone fight in the UFC 225 post-conference. White made it clear the former WWE Champion is not getting another chance to fight inside the Octagon. So he can call it a quit here. Here are his quotes,
“No, it should be a wrap. The guy [Punk] is 39 years old. I love the guy, and he’s the nicest guy in the world. We gave him two shots, and he had a lot of heart tonight, but I think he should call it a wrap.”
White also criticized Mike Jackson for not finishing the fight earlier than expected. He was acting ‘like a goofball’ at one point during the match. It was the UFC owner’s fault to out the Punk vs Jackson fight on the main card of UFC 225 event. He clarified this with the below comments,
“I got the sense that he’s a complete f**king idiot, and I couldn’t wait for that fight to end, and I regretted not putting that fight on Fight Pass. That’s how I felt about that fight.”
CM Punk is not having a good time at all. Recently Brock Lesnar toppled his 434-day reign with the WWE Championship. It has wiped him out of a historical context in the biggest pro-wrestling promotion in the world.
