The Undertaker’s career came to an end at the hands of Roman Reigns at the 33rd edition of grandest stage of them all. Ever since then the hardcore wrestling fans were really upset with the fact that the end should have been arranged against another one rather than Reigns.
This brought us to the name that was originally scheduled to face the Undertaker at this year’s Wrestlemania. It was John Cena who was the most probable opponent for Taker pitted by the WWE creative. More importantly, it was Undertaker’s wish that he would face the franchise of the company in his last match.
As noted by Dave Meltzer from Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the end of the Undertaker would have been something much different if Vince McMahon would have given priority to Taker’s intention.

According to the veteran sports journalist, The Phenome has requested to face John Cena at the Ultimate thrill-ride of the year. However, Vince McMahon turned it down, instantly. This bout is considered to be one of the dream matches in the pro-wrestling circuit. Hence, this match is rumoured with every year Wrestlemania coming around.
But, just like the previous years, this year too the match did not take place and should not happen given the fact that Taker is now retired. Take a look at the tweet in which Meltzer stated the same in reply to a fan’s tweet:

No, just Vince has a different vision for the show and thinking longterm picture not short-term. https://t.co/mBU03in0JB

As you can see in the tweet, the Boss is still going with the vision of making Roman Reigns as the next franchise of the company. The win against Taker was the biggest in his career and might help in future, as per Vince.
On the other hand, Cena’s role as a full-timer in the WWE has been trimmed to a certain extent and hence this match would not make any profit any one of them.
The recent reports around the Undertaker confirm that he will be undergoing a hip replacement process now that Wrestlemania season is over. It is being said that the entire back portion of the Deadman will be replaced solidifying the fact that he will not be allowed to wrestle in the squared circle in the WWE.
