A week has passed by after Undertaker took retirement from WWE but the fans could not move away, fully from the moment that took place at Wrestlemania 33. The Deadman suffered his second loss in his yard at the hands of Roman Reigns. His overall record at the showcase of immortals now stands at 23-2 with a record 99 wins in PPVs.
It was the biggest win in the career of The Big Dog which would earn him a potential title shot or at least a shot to the number one contender-ship. It is being highly speculated that he will face Braun Strowman at the Payback PPV to determine who will challenge Brock Lesnar for the Universal championship.
Apparently, it was the Undertaker’s vision that he would end his career to give his opponent a major push, going forward by letting him win. As reported by PWTorch.com, The Undertaker wanted someone younger as his opponent at Wrestlemania 33.
He and Vince McMahon sat down to discuss the possible opponents and ended up finalising Roman Reigns. John Cena was the initial choice but they both agreed that Reigns would be a better one since a win against the greatest performer ever would earn him more success in the future.
Furthermore, Taker was not willing to compete at this year’s Mania. But, he was convinced in one condition that it would be his last match in which he should ‘put over’ a newer talent to help to build his legacy. Reigns are considered as the top most face in the company and hence he raced ahead of Cena or AJ Styles in the opponent list.
Initially, he was not the first choice of the Boss, as well. Taker first returned on Smackdown after Wrestlemania 32 since he was supposed to confront John Cena to set up the dream match at Mania. But, in the meantime, the franchise also intended to feature in a match with his lady-love Nikki Bella so that he could propose her in front of the 75000 audiences.
Undertaker has retired in a true legendary fashion by ‘putting over’ a younger talent. Considering that both Styles and Cena have already become veterans in the pro-wrestling league, he decided to square off against Reigns. This was a tradition for the old school wrestlers who used to take a loss before their departure.
