A contender’s match was about to happen at the upcoming Extreme Rules PPV event.

There was no update on the status of the Universal Championship ever since April. Brock Lesnar took hiatus from WWE TV following the appearance at Greatest Royal Rumble. The prime title on WWE Raw has been absent since then.

Stephanie McMahon gave some instructions to Kurt Angle over the phone about the situation. The post-MITB night of WWE Raw witnessed the GM addressing the title scenario announcing a multi-superstar contest at Extreme Rules. When we expected multiple superstars to get an opportunity to the Extreme Rules PPV, the match was off the scene, suddenly.

Apparently, Brock Lesnar had some contract negotiation issues with this match. Hence, WWE can’t host this match at the upcoming event. But they can have a one-on-one match to determine the contender’s spot.

Ever since the bygone MITB event, Roman Reigns and Bobby Lashley are gunning for the spotlight at Extreme Rules.

Hence, it was almost obvious that we were getting a battle between these two behemoths at the upcoming PPV event. These two also built quite a rivalry by having heated confrontations for the last couple of weeks. It continued last night when Bobby Lashley walked out of Reigns during a match. It led The Revival to beat the hell out of the Big Dog.

The man who claimed WWE to be his yard was in no mood to settle things easily after that. So he went straight to the WWE Raw GM and demanded the match against Bobby Lashley. Kurt Angle took things into consideration. Now WWE.com has made the match official for Extreme Rules.

Here’s the update from WWE’s official website,

“For the first time ever, Roman Reigns will go one-on-one against Bobby Lashley in a showdown between two absolute forces of nature. Will Reigns once again prove himself to be The Guy? Or will Lashley claim his biggest victory since making his earth-shattering return to WWE?”

It is still not official that this is the number one contender’s match for the Universal Championship. We are yet to receive this confirmation, officially.

Also, there should be a stipulation for this match considering this will happen at Extreme Rules. This announcement is also likely to come on next week’s episode.
