Summerslam marked the end for title reign of Brock Lesnar. A 500-plus day run with the championship came crashing down to rebuild the Roman Empire. No matter what or how the people think about the title change, the fact is nobody deserved the title more than Roman Reigns. He is the rightmost candidate to make the title look prestigious for WWE Raw.

We wondered who was going to be the first challenger for Roman Reigns on WWE Raw. Brock Lesnar was not going to be available as his contract does not allow him to work extra dates. His status with the WWE was also in doubt. Recent reports suggested that he is UFC-bound after Summerslam.

We learned an update about him on WWE Raw when Paul Heyman appeared. He confirmed that Brock Lesnar is willing to have his rematch for the Universal Championship. But Kurt Angle did not sanction this for now. Brock Lesnar has to wait for a long time before he gets the title rematch. It certainly indicates that he will no more appear on WWE Raw in 2018.

So, Braun Strowman was going to be a likable option for Roman Reigns. But he is the MITB briefcase holder and does not need explicit opportunities for the Universal Title. He can cash it on Roman Reigns in any time and place to become the new champion. So we wondered who WWE would choose as the contender for the title.

Well, that contender’s name is still up for grabs. Instead, we received a one-off title match on WWE Raw. Roman Reigns delighted the crowd by making an announcement on the opening segment of the show. He wanted to hand over a match to Finn Balor since he never got his rematch for the championship.

In case you don’t remember, Finn Balor had to forfeit the title on the 2016 post-Summerslam episode of WWE Raw. So it could not be a better place for him to get the due match. Unfortunately for him, the match ended in a chaotic manner taking away his opportunity. Braun Strowman came out distracting him that allowed Roman Reigns to hit the spear.

This pendant move helped the Big Dog to retain his championship on WWE Raw. The Monster Among Men tried to cash in the MITB briefcase after the match was over. He was about to do so delivering a big boot on Roman Reigns. But The Shield’s music hit the arena preventing him.

Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins appeared at the ringside ganging up on Braun Strowman. He tried to fight back but Roman Reigns floored him with a spear. Thereafter, The Shield hit the triple powerbomb on Braun Strowman through the commentary desk to end WWE Raw on a pleasant note.
