Following an abrupt push from Wrestlemania 33 onwards, Jinder Mahal has been able to pick up the most coveted title present in the WWE at Backlash.
His pride as the champion might have gone bigger following the celebration that he had on Smackdown Live, this week.
A whole group of Punjabi dancers came down to the WWE ramp to celebrate The Maharaja’s win in style. Jinder Mahal cut a strong heel promo with the Singh brothers by his side delivering a strong statement to the entire Smackdown locker room.
Also, the fact that his celebration was not interrupted by any of the babyface superstars indicates WWE creative intending to give him an endless push.
It leads us to the inevitable question as for how long Jinder will continue with his championship reign. Previously, during WWE Backlash the viewership on the blue brand as well as the ticket selling of the PPV went downwards indicating his title reign might be cut short, soon.
However, the viewership has seen an upward direction for the post-Backlash episode of Smackdown. It is a good thing for the new champion since the main highlight of the show was to witness getting a championship coronation in an Indian style.
Considering this, All Wrestling News has come up with an update on his title reign. They suggested that Jinder would end up getting quite a long run with the championship in hand. In fact, it might carry forward until the month of September considering the other deciding factors.
The original rumours following Backlash suggested that he might be dropping the title to Randy Orton on the very next episode of Smackdown. But, that did not happen since Orton was not present on the main show. They did have a match in the dark segment but that ended in a disqualification.
The secondary reason behind keeping Jinder Mahal as a champion for a long-term basis is WWE’s plans to make a tour in India in the upcoming months. The crowd would surely love to witness their homeland son holding the championship amongst all the who’s who in the roster. It is bound to increase their interest in WWE programming, afterwards.
Also, it points out how desperate WWE is breaking into the Indian market.
