The Mercedes-Benz Superdome was in shock after Roman Reigns ended up losing the main event match against Brock Lesnar.
This match was a tailor-made one for him where he steals the prime title from a part-timer to solidify his legacy on the flagship show. Going forward, a strong run was expected from him.
However, the reality turned out to be completely different, as Brock Lesnar picked up an emphatic win. However, we need to remember that he had to deliver a dozen of suplexes and six F-5s to finally put the franchise player of the company down to the mat.
But, the crowd could not believe the unthinkable happened even hours after the pinfall.
Even most of the sources were sure of Roman Reigns’ win which was denied by the creative team to give us a major swerve. Some updates were given by Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter which suggested even most of the people were kept unaware of the match result to produce a major shock, aftermath. It was a late decision that kept everyone in the dark.
Check out the more details on this issue,
“Meltzer noted that plans were changed late, perhaps in the last week or so, but not at the last minute. The finish was kept from most everyone, including the writers and lead producers, who still thought Reigns was going to win the title. The referee did not know the finish of the match until the bout was in progress.”
The rumours even do suggest the decision was made in between the match was in progress. Vince McMahon was not happy with the reactions that Roman Reigns was getting. He was not getting ‘over’ with the crowd when he decided to drop the original planning with the match. The match official was let known of the same, and he did the rest.
My understanding is Lesnar signed for one more match. Audible called by Vince during the match last night when Roman wasn’t getting over at all. Now Lesnar will lose the belt in front of a more conducive audience.

The Chairman wants to wait for the Greatest Royal Rumble event where the much-anticipated championship change could happen. Considering this is an outside USA show, the chances are that fans will give the Big Dog better reactions which can get capitalized. This would also garner more attention to the WWE Network Exclusive event that would take place live on April 27th.
