Paige shocked the world the night after Wrestlemania 34. She announced her retirement from the in-ring competition in New Orleans.

This is the same place where she made her debut, four years ago. So, things came full circle for her at that point. But, most of the fans could not believe it happened.

The anti-Diva of the WWE is just 25 years old and had plenty of careers left inside her. But, in December 2017, she suffered a fatal injury on her neck. It is the most sensitive part of the body. A wrestler can expect the least to pick up an injury on this spot. Due to this, the doctors banned her from competition for the lifetime.

Paige gave an emotional speech on WWE Raw to conclude her career. But, there were more surprises for the fans, the very next night. On Smackdown Live, Shane McMahon revealed her to be the new General Manager of the show. So, for now, her WWE career will continue in a newer direction.

In a recent episode of Edge and Christian’s Pod Of Awesomeness, Paige noted on the happenings during the Wrestlemania week. After delivering the retirement speech, she walked through the curtain to the back. Vince McMahon, Stephanie McMahon and Triple H were the names who were waiting for the back.

At that point, she knew nothing about her GM role on Smackdown. Paige was preparing to head back to England after realizing she had no role left in the company. But, the creative team informed her to attend Smackdown Live, next day. No one informed her of the reason, at all. So, she, herself got a shock after becoming the authority figure.

Check out her quotes from the podcast, (courtesy wrestlingINC.com),

“They told me that I was going to SmackDown Live the next night. I had asked why, but they didn’t tell me. At that point, I had been touring a lot. Did a lot for WrestleMania week, so I was exhausted physically and mentally where I just wanted to go home, so I was curious as to what was going on.

I got to SmackDown the next day, Road Dogg, along with my writing team surround me and I was thinking, ‘Oh my God, am I about to beat up. Do I owe you money?’ It was then they told me I was going to be the SmackDown general manager, but don’t tell anyone. We don’t even have the script yet.”

The two veteran hosts of the show also asked Paige if there’s any chance of her in-ring return. The recent comeback of Daniel Bryan is the reason behind this. The former Divas Champion noted Bryan had a concussion, whereas, she is suffering from a neck injury. So, it’s not possible for Paige to make a comeback, ever.
