WWE TLC witnessed a historic Smackdown Women’s Championship match. Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, and Asuka featured in a triple threat Tables, Ladder and Chairs contest that was first-of-its-kind from the women’s division. Asuka was the first one to climb the ladder to unhook the title and thereby becoming the new champion.
This automatically sets up a future championship match between Asuka and Becky Lynch. The latter one is the former champion who still owes a rematch. So it is expected that the match should happen in due course. The most likely place to let it happen was at the next PPV event that is Royal Rumble which is also the first of 2019.
In a recent episode of WWE Main Event even revealed a poster of the upcoming championship match. It stated that Becky Lynch will get her rematch for the SmackDown Women’s Championship against Asuka at Royal Rumble 2019. WWE Universe was gearing up for yet another mouth-watering first-ever singles contest but now it’s not happening.
Former Smackdown general manager Paige broke the news a few days ago on Twitter. She was about to make one of the last matches of her tenure that did not happen. With that, Asuka vs. Becky Lynch is not official at Royal Rumble. So why did the poster go public and that too on TV via WWE programming?
Wwfoldschool.com gave an update via pro-wrestling that the decision got changed on a sudden basis. Apparently, the officials might want to re-examine the match card of Royal Rumble. They still want to wait before making any other championship match official. So Asuka will have to wait a little bit more to get her first opponent for a title defense.
Here’s more from the source on this issue,
“Asuka vs Becky Lynch at the Rumble was the plan and was going to be announced on SmackDown. It was decided Tuesday that the Rumble card would be re-evaluated and the match may or may not happen, but the studio had the old information and used it for Main Event.”
Another theory behind keeping this match off is that Becky Lynch is one of the favorites to win the women’s Royal Rumble match. This win will ensure her dream match against Ronda Rousey at Wrestlemania 35. This is the rumored main event of the ‘show of shows’ in 2019. This is the ongoing speculation which might become true if Asuka vs. Becky Lynch indeed gets off from Royal Rumble 2019.
