WWE is gearing up to host the first-ever women’s Wrestlemania main event on April 7th. It is right to say that buildup for the Raw women’s championship match has received the right direction. It has a lot of hypes and talks going around which justifies the Wrestlemania main event spotlight. There’s no denying that it’s the best time to be a female superstar in the WWE.
But there’s a flip side of the coin. When the champion from the red brand is getting all the attention, Smackdown women’s champion is absent from the scene. Asuka has not been able to prove her potential as the title-holder ever since winning the big match at WWE TLC. She has not featured on TV following Royal Rumble, too.
This leaves us with doubts regarding her current status. Is WWE even thinking about her match at Wrestlemania? Or her title run would end up being a lackluster one? Well, WrestleVotes assured the fans of Asuka in a current update. The revealed that WWE has a plan around the Empress of Tomorrow around Wrestlemania.
The source could not disclose the exact opponent name of Asuka at Wrestlemania 35. But it should be a name worthy to take on her at the grandest stage of them all. WWE could not book her in a title match at Elimination Chamber since most of the other competitors were booked in women’s tag team championship match. For now, she will face Asuka at Fastlane pay-per-view event.
Going forward, we should find out who is going to be the future opponent of Asuka, as per the source,
“Been getting a ton of Asuka questions. As far as I know, they do have a plan for Mania. Just wasn’t wise for Asuka to be featured the last few weeks. WWE doesn’t want excessive “brand jumping” prior to WM, leaving only Lana or Vega for Chamber. That’s not a PPV matchup WWE wanted.”
So WrestleVotes spelled another strong reason for not booking Asuka at Elimination Chamber. The creative team could have gone to the red brand to find a valiant opponent for her. But they did not want to do more cross-brand matches prior to Wrestlemania 35. Already one such match is set to headline the show. So WWE might just avoid hosting another one.
This does not make much sense to the brand split theory. Plus, most of the strong names from Smackdown female roster got booked in Elimination Chamber tag team match. Lana and Zelina Vega were the only two names left in the equation. But they are not much of incredible competitors compared to Asuka. So the champion had to stay out of the equation for sometimes.
