Utilizing his free agency, Mustafa Ali arrived on the NXT brand and secured a spot at the NXT Great American Bash 2023 edition. Last week, the former leader of RETRIBUTION defeated Tyler Bate in a hard-fought encounter and solidified himself as the legit contender for the NXT North American Championship held by Wes Lee.
Once the match was over, Ali After his win, Ali challenged Lee to a title match at the Great American Bash 2023 premium live event and stated the following, “It is time, my friend. I am challenging you to a match for the North American Championship at the Great American Bash.”

As the storyline over the mid-card title continued on NXT, there is a chance that the title could end up changing hands before the upcoming event. Mustafa Ali will indeed challenge for the NXT North American Championship at NXT Great American Bash 2023, but it remains to be seen who he will face.
On the latest episode of NXT, it was announced that current champion Wes Lee will defend his title next week against The Judgment Day’s Dominik Mysterio. The heel faction from Monday Night Raw was in attendance of NXT and they also participated in the main event.
Next week, they’re likely to attend NXT for two weeks in a row when Dominik competes in a championship match. This marks Dominik’s second-ever match for NXT, after facing Raul Mendoza of Legado del Fantasma on the March 15, 2022, episode of NXT. This match will also mark the Mysterio clan’s first opportunity at singles gold in his entire WWE career.
Also announced for the NXT Great American Bash 2023 is the main event where WWE NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes will defend his championship belt against Ilja Dragunov. The latter defeated Bron Breakker in a number-one contender’s match to secure the championship shot.
