Things were a bit emotional on this past episode of WWE NXT as one of the veterans, Johnny Gargano had his farewell moments. As noted by him, the black-and-gold brand has always been something special to him which is the reason why he never left the territory for Raw or Smackdown brand.
Since he was attacked by the end of his farewell by Grayson Waller, it was thought to be the beginning of a new feud. However, reports suggest that become a free agent at midnight tonight.
As noted earlier, Johnny Gargano’s original WWE NXT contract was scheduled to expire last Friday, December 3, but he then signed a one-week extension to work the December 5 edition of WWE NXT WarGames event, and then this past episode of NXT 2.0 episode.
That extension was expired on December 10. There was speculation on Johnny Gargano possibly staying as the WWE Superstar. However, that is not the case. In an update to the situation, word is now out suggesting that the reliable NXT talent has become a free agent as he is yet to sign a new WWE contract. Fightful Select is the source who provided the information.
Johnny Gargano is free to wrestle outside WWE
Since his original WWE contract is expiring, Johnny Gargano will be free to work anywhere he wants. Without any no-compete clause attached to him, he can immediately appear on any of the TV shows. WWE did want the former champion to stay and his departure is said to be “incredibly amicable” as the door was left open by both sides to work together in the future.
People within WWE still hope that Gargano will eventually come back to the company. Rumors are high that he could be taking a few months away from professional wrestling as he and wife Candice LeRae are getting ready to welcome their child first child together, a baby boy, in February.
Johnny Gargano and other top NXT names denied signing on new contract offers back in 2019 when NXT moved to the USA Network. It was noted that not sufficient incentive for top stars was offered during that point. Then in last October WWE officials began reaching out to the likes of Gargano for signing a new deal, which was said to be “much better” than 2019.
