WWE NXT New Year’s Evil 2022 special has officially been announced to return at the beginning of next year. The confirmation came during this weekend’s NXT WarGames special edition from the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida.

As per the announcement, it won’t be a WWE Network special but rather it will be a regular themed episode. The January 4 edition of NXT TV will be the special WWE NXT New Year’s Evil 2022 show, airing live from the same WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida.

A promo featuring WWE NXT New Year’s Evil 2022 aired during last night’s NXT WarGames event, with the likes of Boa, Pete Dunne, Elektra Lopez, Harland, Dakota Kai, NXT North American Champion Carmelo Hayes, Santos Escobar, and Toxic Attraction (NXT Women’s Champion Mandy Rose, NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne) featuring in the promo.

“Evil has a new face,” is the tagline included in the promo for WWE NXT New Year’s Evil 2022 which featured a hooded Mandy Rose in the crowd. It appears that the NXT Women’s Champion will feature in one of the headliner matches on that night although nothing regarding the event is yet to be confirmed.

WWE NXT New Year’s Evil is returning next year

The first-ever WWE NXT New Year’s Evil episode took place on January 6 of this year with zero fans in attendance due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The episode was hosted by Dexter Lumis with the headliner being the then-NXT Champion Finn Balor retaining over Kyle O’Reilly in a singles encounter.

WWE NXT New Year’s Evil 2021 also featured Karrion Kross defeating current WWE United States Champion Damian Priest, then-NXT Cruiserweight Champion Santos Escobar retaining against Gran Metalik, Xia Li defeating Katrina Cortez, Raquel Gonzalez defeating Rhea Ripley in a Last Woman Standing match, and a mixed tag team match with Kushida and Shotzi Blackheart defeating Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRae.

In more news apart from WWE NXT New Year’s Evil 2022, Kyle O’Reilly challenged Von Wagner to a Steel Cage Match on this coming Tuesday’s episode of NXT 2.0. This came after Wagner turned heel on Kyle and tried to attack him after coming up short against Imperium’s Marcel Barthel and Fabian Aichner during their title match at WarGames.
