The New Day made history by becoming the first tag team from the main roster to win WWE NXT tag team titles. Next week, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods will be going through their first tag title defense on the black and gold brand, as announced on this week’s episode.
Kingston and Woods were present on WWE NXT to address their big win over Elton Prince and Kit Wilson for the NXT Tag Team Championship at NXT Deadline this past Saturday. Woods mentioned his buddy to be the only singles and tag Triple Crown Champion in WWE history.

Title shot awarded by the reigning champions on NXT
Pretty Deadly was out to interrupt the promo as they told New Day that they wanted a title shot. The champions were busy in taunting them when Josh Briggs and Brooks Jensen arrived at the ring and asked for a title shot against the champions for next week. Briggs and Jensen were granted the title match because they recited the Pledge of Allegiance on last night’s episode.

Jensen and Briggs are former WWE NXT UK Tag Team Champions and they held the titles for 74 days while Wilson and Prince of Pretty Deadly were the former tag champs. They held the belts from September 4 until this past Saturday at NXT Deadline before dropping it to The New Day. It was their second reign as NXT Tag Team Champions and their first reign lasted from April 12 to June 4. They have also held NXT UK Tag Team Championships.
As for The New Day, this is their first reign as the WWE NXT Tag Team Champions. They have previously held the Raw and SmackDown Tag Team Titles on ten separate occasions. Before winning the belts on NXT, they briefly were the SmackDown Tag Team Champions in October 2020.
WWE NXT December 20 Match Card
Apart from The New Day’s title defense, Apollo Crews will return to NXT next week since losing the NXT Championship match to Bron Breakker at the Deadline premium live event. Additionally, a women’s tag team title match will also be there. The current card for the December 20 episode goes as follows,
