Controversies surrounded the co-main-event match of New Year’s Evil that eventually led to a new match announcement at NXT Vengeance Day 2023. In the potential main event match of the upcoming pay-per-view, the NXT Championship will be on the line in a gimmick match.
During last night’s WWE NXT: New Year’s Evil event, NXT World Champion Bron Breakker successfully defended his title against Grayson Waller. But Breakker will have to defend his title against Waller again at NXT Vengeance Day 2023 as the match ended on a confusing note where the challenger was counted out, unfortunately, after the middle rope gave out.

Shawn Michales made an announcement on NXT
This was the second time during the title match that the ring ropes snapped leading Waller to go out to the floor. He was unable to get into the ring within the ten counts of the referee that allowed the official to announce the win in favor of Breakker via Count-Out.
Both the champion and the challenger were unhappy with how things played out. Hence, Senior Vice President of Talent Development Creative Shawn Michaels announced the rematch at NXT Vengeance Day 2023 inside a steel cage.

Breakker has been the reigning WWE NXT Champion since April 4, 2022, after he defeated Dolph Ziggler in the Raw after Wrestlemania 38 episode. He has since defended it against current Intercontinental Champion Gunther, Joe Gacy, former NXT UK Champion Ilja Dragunov, Cameron Grimes, and Von Wagner.
Before NXT Vengeance Day 2023, Breakker’s last title defense was against Apollo Crews at NXT Deadline, the same night where Waller defeated Axiom, Hayes, JD McDonagh, and Gacy in a Men’s Iron Survivor Challenge to become the Number-One Contender to Breakker’s NXT Championship.
