Now, on the corporate website of the company, WWE Payback 2023 was touted to have broken multiple records including viewership, gate, and merchandise sales. Viewership of this particular PLE increased by 36% against the 2016 edition of the event.

The previously held record for this city was to host 12,468 fans in Pittsburgh which meant an increase of 13% in the gate. Also, since the 2016 event, WWE Payback 2023 marked WWE’s highest-grossing event ever in Pittsburgh.
From a merchandise perspective, sales around the 2023 edition were up 182% which overshadowed the previously set record for the event in 2017. Also, WWE touted that last weekend’s PLE was the most socially viewed Payback ever with 146 million social views – an increase of 44% from the 2020 edition.

WWE Payback 2023 featured Seth Rollins vs. Shinsuke Nakamura for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in the main event. Rollins battled even with an injured back during the match and in the end connected with The Stomp to pin Nakamura for a title retention.
