As builds for Summerslam 2023 continued on WWE Raw, this week, we received multiple announcements regarding new matches for the PLE. Apart from those rejoicing news for the WWE Universe, a couple of bad news had also been there in the form of injuries.

The Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champion Kevin Owens was attacked on WWE Raw to get hurt and it appears that this isn’t just a storyline angle for him. Owens was in the corner of his tag team partner Sami Zayn who challenged Dominik Mysterio for the NXT North American Championship on the July 24 episode.

Ringside shenanigans led to Owens being ejected from ringside by the referee alongside Mysterio’s Judgment Day cohorts Rhea Ripley and Damian Priest. The three of them eventually returned when Owens was taken out by Ripley and Priest on the ramp. This distraction also led to Mysterio getting the pinfall victory over Zayn. With this win on WWE Raw, Dominik already earned two successful title defenses since winning the belt on last week’s NXT.

Later on WWE Raw, Owens was seen backstage being tended to by the doctors. It appears the attack would keep the champion out of action for a few days and he would miss Summerslam. Eventually, Owens and Zayn should go through a future tag title defense against any two of The Judgment Day members.

But that title defense has to wait as Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp reported that Owens is legitimately hurt. As of this writing, the details on the severity of the injury or Owens’ possible return to action hasn’t been revealed by Ross.

WWE Raw: Liv Morgan injured by Rhea Ripley on July 24 episode

In another injury update from WWE Raw, Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley attacked Liv Morgan before their match could begin. Ripley blistered Liv’s arm by using a Steel Chair before telling her to su*k it to end the segment.

Before this segment, the new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Chelsea Green and Sonya Deville then criticized Byron Saxton for interviewing Liv and not interviewing them. They talked about how Ripley or Liv gets the attention. Ripley showed up and warned the Tag Team Champions but she eventually ended up attacking Liv.

Last week on WWE Raw, it was Ripley’s attack on Raquel Rodriguez that allowed Chelsea Green and Sonya Deville to defeat Liv and Raquel for the tag titles in the first place. At this point, Ripley vs. Raquel for the Women’s World Title will likely go down at Summerslam 2023.
