A happening episode of WWE Raw went down this week which was the second last edition before Money in the Bank 2023 premium live event. Fulfilling the lineups for both the men’s and women’s ladder matches were the highlights of the night while in the opening segment, a major return went down in the form of a former WWE NXT Champion.
The June 19 episode of WWE Raw kicked off with Seth Rollins’ Open Challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship. As Rollins was standing in the ring, waiting for his next challenge, Finn Balor of The Judgment Day attacked Seth to cancel the challenge.
Ciampa defeated The Miz on Raw
The Miz then came out in his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio, and declared that he will host an Open Challenge, instead since Rollins can’t issue one due to the attack. It was then that former NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa returned and accepted the challenge. It was an interesting scenario given Ciampa was Miz’s cohort in his first run on WWE Raw.

Then in the opening contest of WWE Raw, Ciampa proceeded to defeat Miz in under five minutes. This marked Ciampa’s first match as well as a victory on WWE programming since last August when he teamed up with The Miz to defeat AJ Styles and Bobby Lashley in a tag team match.

WWE Raw: Tommaso Ciampa missed almost a year due to a hip injury
Ciampa was already dealing with a hip injury last year’s summer as he had to go into a hiatus to fix the issues. He was then present backstage at WWE Raw, last month in Albany, New York but despite the reports he didn’t make any TV appearances on that evening, Eventually, it hinted that his return to TV was imminent and it became a reality, last night.
A DIY reunion happening soon on Raw?
In recent times, there have been hints of a reunion with former tag team partner and bitter rival Johnny Gargano on WWE Raw. The same was teased by the WWE as Ciampa returned and turned into a babyface by taking on his former ally, The Miz.
During the Draft 2023 edition in May’s first week, The Way faction from NXT sans Austin Theory was reunited on WWE Raw as Gargano, Candice LeRae, Dexter Lumis, and Indi Hartwell was selected by the red brand. Following the selection, Gargano already made reference to Ciampa for a reunion which must be on the card shortly, “And like I was saying, he’s coming back soon, and I think it’s gonna be great.”
