The complexion of the WWE Raw brand was supposed to change with Brock Lesnar returning to the show. The champion resurfaced to address the Universal championship picture which was in serious jeopardy during his hiatus. Also, the number one contender for the Cruiserweight title determined from the show hosted at the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island.

Kurt Angle opened up this week’s WWE Raw to announce the Universal Championship match at the Royal Rumble. He was quickly interrupted by Braun Strowman and then Kane. The trio’s conversation was then cut short, as Brock Lesnar made his presence felt in the ring that led Angle to announce a triple threat match featuring them for the championship. A brawl ensued inside the ring as Brock Lesnar delivered an F-5 to Kane to stand tall.

Seth Rollins was scheduled for a match against Samoa Joe. But, Jason Jordan interrupted him and got his hands on him to set up an impromptu matchup. Samoa Joe was standing at the ringside and made his presence felt providing the distraction. It allowed Rollins to connect with a Ripcord Knee to pick up the win. After the match, Joe attacked both Rollins and Jordan to lay them down.

Finn Balor had a handicapped match with The Miztourage. While he was in firm control of the match, both Dallas and Axel started attacking Balor leading the contest to a disqualification. At this point, Hideo Itami from the Cruiserweight division ran down to make the save. Just after this segment, Cedric Alexander defeated Drew Gulak to become the number one contender for the Cruiserweight title.

Following what happened earlier the night, Seth Rollins demanded a match against Samoa Joe. But, Kurt Angle denied making the same. Rather, a tag team match was made official, as Rollins, Ambrose, and Jordan took on Samoa Joe, Sheamus, and Cesaro. Ambrose was hurt legit after taking a nasty fall on the floor. It allowed Sheamus to hit a Brogue Kick on Rollins to get the pinfall win.

Asuka had a squash match against Alicia Fox to continue her dominant run. The Revival was back onboard by having a tag-team match against Heath Slater and Rhyno. The heel team picked up a convincing win after which Elias had his musical segment inside the ring which was interrupted by Sasha Banks, Mickie James, and Bayley.

These three took on Paige and The Absolution in a six-woman tag team action. It was a short match which got disqualified, as Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville started attacking Sasha Banks after which the referee called for the bell. After that, Stephanie McMahon entered the ring to make the Women’s Royal Rumble match official in January. The crowd applauded the announcement, as WWE Raw went off the air.
