It was the first night of 2018 where WWE Raw came live with a packed show on the deck. Brock Lesnar returned to flagship program to deliver a strong statement. Plus, the Intercontinental and the Cruiserweight Championship match were also put on the line to make the show worth the watch. Check out the results from the evening hosted at the American Airlines Center in Miami, Florida.
WWE Raw kicked off with a segment between Kurt Angle and Alexa Bliss. We were informed that the women’s champion would face Asuka in a singles competition. Inside the ring, we were welcomed by the GM into the New Year. His speech was cut short by The Bar who demanded a rematch for the tag titles.
Instead, we received a singles competition where Cesaro, one half of the Bar took on Jason Jordan. Seth Rollins was present at the ringside area to take care of Sheamus. He neutralised the Celtic warrior whereas Jordan connected with the belly to back neck-breaker to pick up the win and continue the momentum.
Alexa Bliss was terrified with the fact that she had to face Asuka. The champion wanted to avoid the match and even wanted to get help from Nia Jax but was denied. Bliss tried to counter Asuka’s attacks to a valiant effort but got trapped into an arm-bar from Asuka. She was forced to tap out and lose the non-title match.
Braun Strowman featured in singles match against Rhyno. After squashing his opponent and Heath Slater, Strowman played around them, a little bit by delivering a beatdown. The crowd cheered him as he continued to hit both the opponents with running powerslams.
Roman Reigns and Samoa Joe had a solid match with the crowd chanting, ‘this is awesome’. Joe tried to disqualify Reigns by shoving him off into the referee. But, the official did fall into the trap. Joe tried to lock in the Coquina Clutch, as well but the champion hit the spear to retain his title.
Bray Wyatt defeated Apollo Crews in a squash match, easily. The Cruiserweight title match did not happen as Enzo Amore was sick. Hence, Goldust and Alexander teamed up against Gulak and Daivari to pick up the win. Finn Balor teamed up with Gallows and Anderson to defeat the team of Elias and The Miztourage.
In the final segment of WWE Raw, Brock Lesnar was addressing the audience showing his displeasure for defending the title in a triple threat capacity. Paul Heyman’s promo was cut short by Kane who showed up and delivered a chokeslam to Lesnar. But the champion sat up and downed Kane with a clothesline to stand tall and end the show.
