In the minimal presence of the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns, WWE Raw is taking care of things with the mid-card champion in Bobby Lashley who holds the United States Championship. Being an overly protected character, the US Champion hasn’t suffered a pinfall or submission loss for almost a year. Now, he is set for his next championship defense.

Over on this week’s WWE Raw, a unique series of matches were scheduled to take place to determine who the next number-one contender would be to Bobby Lashley’s United States Championship. It all began with a triple threat match with the lineup being AJ Styles vs. The Miz vs. Ali. Styles won this match after catching Ali with a Styles Clash move after the latter caught Miz with a 450-splash.

The winners of the respective Triple Threats, Styles, and Ciampa, then competed in a singles match in the third hour of WWE Raw to determine the new Number-one Contender for the United States Championship. The Miz provided a distraction for Styles by tripping him outside the ring. He somehow beat the referee’s ten counts and ran back to the ring only to be hit with the Fairytale Ending to suffer the pinfall loss.

With this win, Ciampa has now become the new challenger for the United States Title who will now challenge Lashley on the August 8 edition of the red brand. Bobby Lashley addressed getting a new opponent for his title, after the match. Like a fighting champion, he cut a babyface promo and planned on not dropping his championship on next week’s WWE Raw.

As for Ciampa, he has recently been acting as an ally on WWE Raw for The Miz. He accompanied The Miz and Maryse to the ring for the scheduled match against the YouTuber-turned-pro-wrestler Logan Paul at WWE SummerSlam on July 30th. With Triple H being in charge of the creative team, Ciampa is expected to get a big push on WWE Raw. These two also shared a great bond during Ciampa’s run on developmental brand NXT.
