WWE Raw and Smackdown remained without the presence of Women’s Tag Team Champions for more than three months. Ever since Sasha Banks and Naomi were stripped of the titles after they walked out during the May 16th, 2022, episode of Raw, the titles remained vacant. WWE then announced a Women’s Tag Team Championship Tournament, earlier this month that culminated in the final match, last night.
Raquel Rodriguez and Aliyah squared off against Dakota Kai and Iyo Sky in the main event of WWE Raw in the finale of the Women’s Tag Team Championship Tournament. The two babyfaces also ended up winning the match to become the winners.

As seen in the match, Rodriguez was kicked out of SKY from the moonsault finishing maneuver. Bayley tried to get involved, afterward but she was neutralized by Alexa Bliss, Asuka, and WWE Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair. The distraction allowed Aliyah to score the decisive roll-up pin on Dakota Kai.
In the first round of the tournament, SKY and Kai defeated Tamina and WWE 24/7 Champion Dana Brooke on WWE Raw to advance before pinning Asuka and Alexa Bliss, last week to make it to the finals.
On the other half of the bracket, Rodriguez and Aliyah defeated Xia Li and Shotzi in the opening round on Smackdown before beating the winner of a Second Chance Fatal-4-Way, Natalya and Sonya Deville in the semi-finals this past Friday Night on the blue brand.

Raquel Rodriguez made history on this week’s WWE Raw
This win on WWE Raw was historic for Raquel Rodriguez as she’s become the first woman in WWE to win both the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship and the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship. She was the inaugural NXT Women’s Tag Team Champion with Dakota Kai after winning the Dusty Rhodes Women’s Tag Team Classic in March of 2019.
She then won the titles, once more during this year’s NXT Stand & Deliver event alongside Zoey Stark. Also, Rodriguez has been a former NXT Women’s Champion who won the belt at the 2021 NXT Stand & Deliver 2021 event from IYO SKY (fka Io Shirai).
There have been anticipations of Sasha Banks and Naomi’s return during this week’s WWE Raw, after the title match as they’ve reached an agreement to return to the company. They’ve previously walked out of the May 16 episode due to creative differences with the WWE Officials. WWE then suspended them and stripped them of the Women’s Tag Team Titles.
