Randy Orton has enjoyed a two-decade-long career in the WWE. Lengthening the ongoing for so long without any significant break caused him to suffer numerous injuries but he always bounced back to in-ring competition. However, the latest one is a severe one which seems to trouble the veteran wrestler a lot. It could eventually last long.
Due to a back injury, Randy Orton has had to undergo surgery to fix up the problem. It was on the May 20 edition of SmackDown in 2022 when he was last seen on TV. On that night, the veteran superstar and Matt Riddle competed in a match against The Usos for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships and came up short. A post-match beatdown by The Bloodline was also reserved.

In a kayfabe way, WWE scripted Randy Orton’s spine injury while in reality, he had to do consultations with neurosurgeons and orthopedic spine surgeons to get rid of his back problems. In the end, he underwent successful surgery in November to fuse his lower back. WWE never put up any statement regarding his health but his wife Kim Marie Orton confirmed the reports through an Instagram post.

Randy Orton will require more time before medical clearance
In an update on the possible recovery time for Randy Orton followed by a return, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has offered some negative updates. The Apex Predator isn’t yet healed to a point where he can be medically cleared by the WWE doctors for an in-ring return. This news has seemingly wiped out the chances of the former champion making a surprise appearance in the WWE, anytime soon.
Recovery from a back fusion surgery could be a lengthy process and professional wrestlers often require more time to heal up due to the physical demands of their profession. Physical therapy and rehabilitation are also needed to help patients to get back strength in that surgically repaired area. Randy Orton is recuperating at home and is expected to be out of action for several more months which indicates that the rest of the year could also be needed to get healed up.
Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com has also provided an update on Randy Orton’s physical condition and stated the following “don’t expect him doing matches any time soon as he’s a ways away from recovering from his back issues.” WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle was also reminded of his own struggles with back injuries as he stated on his podcast of this was a career-threatening injury.
